On 17 and 18 October 2024, Cape Town, Gauteng, and KwaZulu-Natal will host the prestigious Chaîne des Rôtisseurs Young Chefs Competition, an event that promises to be a remarkable showcase of culinary talent and innovation. This esteemed competition offers young chefs, who work at establishments affiliated with Chaîne des Rôtisseurs South Africa, a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to display their skills and creativity on a grand stage.
The formal competition will take place on 17 October, where young chefs will face off in a culinary battle that emphasizes skill, creativity, and excellence. Macadamias South Africa (SAMAC) proudly supports and sponsors the competition, encouraging participants to incorporate macadamias into their recipes. Lizel Pretorius, CEO of SAMAC, highlights the versatility and nutritional benefits of macadamias, urging chefs to explore the wide range of products available, including macadamia milk, macadamia butter, and raw nuts.
Participants will be challenged to prepare dishes that not only demonstrate their technical abilities but also their innovative flair and dedication to the culinary arts and macadamias have to feature as an ingredient in their recipes.
The event culminates on 18 October with a gala dinner and prize-giving ceremony, where the top three young chefs will be announced. This evening promises to be a celebration of fine dining, bringing together culinary enthusiasts, industry professionals, and supporters of the culinary arts.
With nearly 25,000 members, the Chaîne des Rôtisseurs is an International Association of Gastronomy established in over 80 countries. The association unites enthusiasts who share a passion for quality, fine dining, the encouragement of the culinary arts, and the pleasures of the table. Its distinctive character lies in its ability to bring together amateurs and professionals from all corners of the globe, including hoteliers, restaurateurs, executive chefs, and sommeliers, all in the appreciation of fine cuisine.
“Macadamias are not only delicious but incredibly nutritious. Under the Love Macadamia Brand, we have embarked on a mission to spread the love of macadamias. Their distinctive taste and decadent texture make them a versatile and charming ingredient for any dish. Whether you’re adding a crunchy, buttery note to dinner or brightening up snack time, macadamias offer superior taste, nutrient density, and sustainable sourcing,” says Pretorius.
A typical serving size of macadamia nuts is roughly 10-12 nuts. It provides a sustainable supply of good fats necessary to enrich your body and fuel your day. Pretorius encourages everyone, even those not competing, to try incorporating macadamias into their meals to experience a remarkable difference in taste, nutritional value, and overall health.
